Assignment 4: Fun with Tables

In this assignment, we will build a tourism webpage like we did last time, except we will incorporate tables and use them in two different ways -- for displaying "tabular" data and as a simple means of laying out images.

1. Include some text on the page inviting people to visit Oregon. (It can simply be Latin text.) The text should be fully justified.

2. Use a table to display thumbnail images and captions.

  1. Use the images from the last assignment (or your own).
  2. Use a table to lay out the thumbnail images. When you click on the thumbnail it should open a new window/tab displaying the full-size image. If you wish, you can build a new page for each of the images -- or simply link directly to the full-size image.
  3. The captions should be centered in a row below the images.

3. Add a table showing interesting facts about Oregon.

  1. Include such information as population, state bird, official song, official beverage, and other facts that you find interesting. Link the fact to the site where you found the information.
  2. Put the "labels" in the left column and the "fact" in the other column. Experiment with the alignment of the labels (left, center, right). Which way do you like best?
  3. Include a "header" in the first row of the table. Center it across both columns of the row. (Hint: use the colspan attribute).
  4. Center the table across the page.

4. Upload your assignment to your website and link to it from your home page (index.html).
